Please join us at Energy@Edinburgh’s June seminar, where Jamie Brogan and Kira Myers from ECCI’s Climate Partnerships Team will share their work using GIS mapping to accelerate net zero planning and delivery here in Scotland.

Kira Myers is a Senior Carbon Analyst within both ECCI and the Scottish Climate Intelligence Service. Jamie Brogan is the Head of Climate Partnerships, a Director of SCIS, and a Board Member of Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce.

As progress towards net zero targets comes under increasing scrutiny at local, national and global levels, new approaches are needed to accelerate and improve the effectiveness of planning and delivery, and to attract the public and private commitment and investment needed to deliver our climate goals. Spatial mapping can provide better ways to plan, connect and communicate the complex challenges, and multiple opportunities, of net zero delivery. Our work uses spatial tools to visualise and present over 150 layers of energy, infrastructure, sustainability and socioeconomic data. This enables leaders, investors and other stakeholders to align opportunities and challenges within the net zero transition in a completely different way, in particular when it comes to energy supply and demand. Using spatial tools supports planning and delivery at the pace and scale needed to meet our climate targets and to attract investment, and to show how and where the multiple benefits of a net zero transition can be realised.

Kira and Jamie will demonstrate the work they are doing for Edinburgh’s Net Zero Leadership Board, using ArcGIS to support net zero infrastructure investment across the city and beyond. ECCI is currently establishing the Scottish Climate Intelligence Service, a programme funded by Scottish Government and Scotland’s local authorities to support all 32 local authorities in Scotland with the delivery of area-wide plans for emissions reduction.
